Songs That Might Otherwise Pass You By, Part Two

**This is the last post for the weekend. I got stuck doing errands for most of the day and I'm tired now.**

Dessa, "Children's Work" (MP3 courtesy of KEXP Song of the Day podcast )

I don't play much Hip Hop, but when I do, you know it's different from what you hear on the radio. According to one of her Twitter posts, she references Bertrand Russell! I love Bertrand Russell!

Ted Leo and the Pharmacists, "The Mighty Sparrow" (MP3 courtesy of their label site)

He's been playing with his band for many, many years. They came to Jacksonville a few years ago and I it was a great show. I'm afraid to say more because his latest blog post kind of scared me.

Their Soundcloud site I'm loving their covers of "Joey" and "Everybody wants to rule the world'.

The guy on the right was on The Royal Tenenbaums, right?

The other guys look around embarrassed, but also a little amused because their friend and band mate will *not* stop doing the hokey-pokey.

Amelia Curran, "Scattered and Small"

I tried to find a free, legal mp3 for this, but no luck. Still, it's a really nice song. I've already used my Amazon allotment for the week, but in a few days I'll download this song.

I usually try to think of something funny to say, but this picture is just too pretty. There's nothing funny to say. Okay, I'll try to think of something. How about this: "This is the moment Laura Burhenn from The Mynabirds realizes there is an actual Myna bird perched near the floor."

Rogue Wave

Artist Update

Rogue Wave became an instant favorite of mine a few years ago with the album Descended Like Vultures, featuring songs I love such as "Publish My Love", "Eyes" and "Salesmen at the Day of the Parade". After that incredible album, the cliche is to publish a mediocre record, but Rogue Wave went rogue on that (heh heh heh). They showed us that they could build and innovate on what they did with 2007's Asleep at Heaven's Gate. "Lake Michigan" is still one of my favorite songs of theirs.

They have a new album out. It's called Permalight. You can't miss it--the album cover is fantastic. Their current label, Brushfire, has done something wonderful for us. They're letting us listen to the entire album via Pandora.

Dudes! I went to Amazon to buy at least some of the album (mama's got bills to pay, children...) and one of the songs, "Solitary Gun", is offered free. Sweet!

My original Rogue Wave posts. Wow, the typeface sucks in the earlier posts. The MP3 link for "Publish My Love" (from the band's former label Sub Pop) still works.

**Note** This is going to be the last post today. I've had a tiring weekend. It was good, but tiring.

Wicked picture of Zoe Keating. I tried to find a photo of Mikael Eldridge, but the only ones I could find that I could copy were teeniny. So, just look at the picture of Zoe Keating again, 'cause it's wicked.
