Five Songs I'm Loving This Week

Smog, "Look Now" I liked this so much that when I realized the website I originally got it from, Said the Gramophone, had taken down the song, I spent an hour searching google for another copy. I couldn't find another one, so I used my very least favorite method of sharing mp3s--uploading it to Yousendit. I always feel a little like I'm cheating when I do that
because A) I failed and couldn't find it online and B) well, you're really not supposed to that. It's frowned upon. But I really really like this song. And I would've been really really upset if I couldn't include it. I hope it works.

Lake Holiday, " A Life Worth Living." This is a really nice song from an a band just signed to--it looks like Bi-Fi Records. I've never heard of this label, but I hope they do well by this band because what I've heard, I've liked.

I first heard the song "Black Cab" by Swedish singer Jens Lekman a few years ago. I fell in love immediately with the song and I've listened to it roughly a thousand times since. I could recognize it if it were playing a hundred miles underground. That might be an exaggeration, but the point is--I love this song. Well, you'd think I'd love every song that he put out, right? Uh-uh. Actually, and most unfortunately, I've hated every other song I've heard by him. Until now. This is no "Black Cab," but "Boisa-Bis-O-Boisa" (whatever that means) makes me laugh, and I like it.

Another of my favorite bands is Twin Atlas. It's not music for when you're tired and trying to drive. It's not music to have sex to (though it would be nice music to listen to while lying next to someone.) It's just nice, melodic, meloncholic music. It's a band I'll remember for the rest of my life, and "Show Me All" is one of my favorites of theirs. Originally I'd linked to the song which was part of a wonderful mix of songs at the Beat The Indie Drum Site, but I've just gotten word that the Twin Atlas song, so for posterity's sake, I'm going to link to the band's site. I was going to do a retroactive song as the last one, but seeing as I've already done one "yousendit" link, I feel I would be pushing the good graces of the MP3 Gods & Goddesses if I tried to do it twice in one post. So I'll stick to an already posted song.

Jennifer O'Connor's voice reminds me of Liz Phair's, especially the
"insisting-on-sticking-to-registries-which-are-too-low-for-her." But you know what? Like Liz Phairs older stuff (sorry the pop stuff leaves me feeling cheap) I really like it. This song is called "Hole In The Road."

That's my post for the week. And windows says my virtual memory is too low. I think that's a bunch of bullocks, but who can argue with the Bill Gates machinery?
