Five Songs I'm Loving This Week

Rilo Kiley, "Portion For Foxes." I love this song. You can tell; I quoted it in an earlier post. This is a live version from one of their sites. They actually offer a ton of live mp3s, which is great, though this doesn't really serve the song well. Go here and the studio version of the song will play. It's much cleaner. Also, here's the video.

Tara Jane O'Neil, "
Poisoned Mine." This is a really beautiful song. I originally got it from Said the Gramophone, but as often happens with weblogs, it's been taken off. So, I'm doing a you send it link. It's easy--just click where it says to click. Unfortunately, it's only good for 7 days.

Will Kimbrough "
Chimayo." Okay, I can't help it. It's another yousendit link. I really love this song, though. I've been playing it over and over for the last few weeks. The first few days I had it I thought it was a Crowded House song I'd never heard (I download alot of older songs from artists I like.) Anyways, it's a really cool song. The link's good for seven days.

Crushed Stars, "
Sleepyhead. I really, really like this song. It's got a weird, surreal 50's thing going on. We won't talk about how until this very moment I thought the name of the band was sleepyhead, and the song was Crushed Stars. We just won't mention it. That's what I get for listening to music in a vacuum.

Alden Ginger/Penner, "
Untitled." This is the guy from The Unicorns, who I've heard are fantastic. I haven't actually heard any of their songs, unfortunately. Anyway, this is kind of bluegrass sounding. Definitely some bayou in there. The second song in this post is really good too. I almost made it one of the five, but then I didn't. I love the music, but the guy sounds a little too much like Kermit the Frog. I mean, that's a great quality in Kermit the Frog, but not necessarily in other singers.

Okay, there's a lot more that I wanted to add, but I guess I'll save it for next week. I will show this
video. Click on the music link, and it's the first video under "video." It's called Emily, and it's rocking in a very boppy way. I just wish Adam Green would develop facial expressions. I guess it's part of his schtick, but I don't like it.
